Zusammenfassung
Wir haben in den letzten Kapiteln den Aufbau und die Evolution der Proteine besprochen und dabei erkannt, daß sie als Sonden zur Aufklärung verwandtschaftlicher Beziehungen herangezogen werden können. In diesem wie auch in den nächsten Kapiteln soll mehr die Funktion im Vordergrund stehen. Nach funktionellen Gesichtspunkten unterteilt man Proteine in

Regulatorproteine: Proteine, die mit DNS in Wechselwirkung stehen und die Genexpression steuern.

Faserproteine: Kollagen, Keratin, Seide u.a. Sie übernehmen Stütz- und Schutzfunktionen.
