Zusammenfassung
Was nützt die Kenntnis der Proteinstruktur? Im letzten Kapitel wurde daraufhingewiesen, daß die Kenntnis der Primärstruktur eines Proteins wenig zum Verständnis seiner Funktion beiträgt. Wir werden in Kapitel 18 sehen, daß die exakte sterische Lage eines jeden Aminosäurerestes die Voraussetzung zur Erfüllung einer spezifischen Funktion ist, und die können wir erst dann erkennen, wenn uns die Primärstruktur und die Tertiärstruktur bekannt sind. Wir werden aber auch erkennen, daß es chemische und physikalisch-chemische Näherungsverfahren gibt, die uns bei der Aufklärung der Struktur behilflich sein und Hinweise auf die Bedeutung einzelner Aminosäurereste geben können.
