Zusammenfassung
Ronald David Laing studierte an der University of Glasgow und promovierte dort 1951. Danach verbrachte er als Psychiater zwei Jahre bei der britischen Armee, bevor er nach Glasgow zurückkehrte, um dort seine Ausbildung in Psychiatrie 1956 zu beendigen. Während dieser Zeit arbeitete er sowohl am städtischen Krankenhaus wie auch am Krankenhaus der Universität. 1957 ging er zur Tavistock Klinik in London und beendete den ersten Entwurf seines Buches „The Divided Self“, das seine Arbeit einem großen Leserkreis in der ganzen Welt bekannt machte. In seinem Werk befaßt er sich auf brillante Weise mit der Phänomenologie der Schizophrenie und entwickelte einen Therapieansatz, der die bisherige Auffassung über dieses ganze Gebiet stark in Frage stellte.
