Zusammenfassung
Neal Miller studierte an der University of Washington und an der Stanford University und promovierte 1935 an der Yale University. Ausgebildet als Psychoanalytiker verband er klinische Beobachtungen mit einem breiten Forschungsansatz, was ihm zu solch bedeutenden Beiträgen verhalf wie der Frustrations-Aggressions-Hypothese und der sozialen Lerntheorie. Um die grundlegenden Ursachen der Konfliktmotivation zu untersuchen, begab er sich auf das Gebiet der Hirnstimulation und machte dann schließlich diese äußerst interessante und höchst kontrovers aufgenommene Studienserie über die Kontrolle autonomer Reaktionen mit Hilfe der Biofeedback-Technik. Nach einer bemerkenswerten Laufbahn in Yale, dem Institute of Human Relations, ging er zur Rockefeller University im Jahre 1966, wo er seinen Interessen in Physiologie, Biochemie und Pharmakologie weiter nachging. Professor Neal Miller war 1969 Präsident der American Psychological Association.
