Abstract

The following two experiments deal with three-term series problems composed not of verbal statements but of simple drawings of line segments of different slope. The aim of these experiments is to investigate the extent to which reasoning processes with verbal material are similar to reasoning processes with pictorial material. At the same time these experiments provide more evidence on the way in which verbal and pictorial information is coded in memory.
