Abstract
In the minds of many physicians and some laymen, the stress test is the first of a series of events leading toward coronary angiography and eventually coronary bypass surgery. Because of this we should ask ourselves some critical questions about what the procedure can and cannot accomplish. In preoperaitve testing they are:
-
1.
Can the severity of coronary disease be predicted?
-
2.
Can the postoperative result be predicted?
-
3.
Does pain during testing have predictive value?
-
4.
Does ischemia at low work loads predict surgical result?
-
5.
Does sex help predict the surgical result?
