Abstract
Our knowledge of the physiopathology of postinfarction ventricular aneurysm and akinesis has progressed markedly in recent years as a result of the experience gained from the study of patients before and after surgery, and also as a result of a better understanding of the mechanism and metabolism of normal and abnormal cardiac contracĀtion. As a consequence, the results of surgery have improved both in terms of operative mortality and postoperative long-term survival and from the point of view of postoperative ventricular performance.
