Techniques of Root Washing

  • Wolfgang Böhm
Part of the Ecological Studies book series (ECOLSTUD, volume 33)

Roots can be separated from soil with dry sieving only. At the field sampling site, the soil-root samples are thrown on a sloping wire screen with 2–5 mm mesh size where the roots are collected. Fresh or dry weight or other root parameters are then recorded directly without washing.
