Abstract
In the past years the laser has become a successful tool for the investigation of collision-induced energy transfer processes in molecules [1,2]. This energy transfer can occur between vibrational levels (V-V process) or between the vibrational and the translational/rotational degrees of freedom (V-T/R process). In general the V-V transfer is very fast compared to V-T/R relaxation. Therefore, especially in organic molecules, rather short V-V relaxation times may be expected [3]. In the experiment described here V-V transfer in ethylene has been measured using the laser-fluorescence method.
