Zusammenfassung

Voraussetzung für die Untersuchung von Antigenen und Antikörpern ist die Herstellung von Immunseren, d. h., von Seren, die spezifisch mit Antigenen reagieren. Bei Laborversuchen werden gewöhnlich kleine Tiere, wie Kaninchen, für die Herstellung von Immunseren verwendet. Wenn es jedoch notwendig ist, Seren in größeren Mengen z. B. für therapeutische Zwecke herzustellen, werden größere Tiere bevorzugt, meistens Pferde. Die Immunseren, die durch Injektion eines Tieres mit Antigenen einer anderen Spezies gewonnen werden, nennt man Xenooder Heteroantiseren, wie z. B. Kaninchen-Anti- Huhn-Ovalbumin-Serum oder Pferde-Anti- Diphtherietoxin-Serum. Gelegentlich ist es jedoch notwendig, geringere Antigenunterschiede nachzuweisen, z. B. das Vorhandensein von Rh- Antigenen an menschlichen Erythrozyten. In diesem Fall verwendet man zur Immunisierung ein Tier der gleichen Spezies, das aber das besagte Antigen nicht aufweist.
