Calculation of Diffraction Matrices for Single Bravais-Lattice Layers

Abstract

Here we consider the diffraction of plane waves by an ordered layer of atoms that has one atom per unit cell (i.e., has a Bravais lattice). When more than one atom per unit cell are present, the layer should either be considered as a composite layer (cf. Chaps.6,7) or it should be taken to be several Bravais-lattice layers if their perpendicular separation distances are large (see Sects.3.2,11.1 for the appropriate criteria).
