We have concentrated up to now on descriptive and analytical aspects of pharmacokinetics and have seen how the behaviour of individual drugs in the human body can be characterised by quantitative expressions, independently of their pharmacological and toxicological properties. We have also seen how the pharmacokinetic indices for suitable test substan-ces can describe the function of organs and organ systems. Pharmacokinetics is thus a valuable clinical tool for physiological and pathological research and forms the basis of many routine procedures for organ function tests.
