Abstract
The volume of distribution was described in the last chapter as a theoretical quantity. Strictly speaking, only the intravascular space is real. If, as occurs in diffusion, distribution is rapid and uniform, the volume of distribution often resembles a single compartment such as the extracellular fluid or TBW spaces. Where there are several distribution spaces, which incidentally need not conform with our pictorial image of a space, different effects are seen. If these spaces lie in parallel, as in Fig. 2, the solution is relatively simple.
