Die anatomisch tiefe, versteckte Lage des Pankreas vor der Wirbelsäule und dem Ursprung der Bauchgefäße (Truncus coeliacus) erklärt seine diagnostisch erschwerte Zugänglichkeit. Außer bei sehr voluminosen Krankheitsprozessen ist das Pankreas daher auch nicht tastbar.
