Abstract

The Geomedical Monograph of Kenya continues the series of geomedical monographs, but the authors of this volume attempt different approaches to the presentation of geomedical material. Apart from the more-or-Iess integrated geomedical theme proper, the preceding volumes on Libya (Kanter, 1967), Afghanistan (Fischer, 1968), Kuwait (French and Hill, 1971) and Ethiopia (Schaller and Kuls, 1972) all presented a unique and comprehensive documentation of the state of medical knowledge of the countries concerned, together with a largely complete bibliography of the medical literature. By contrast with the countries mentioned above, the medical, geographical, economic, and social-science literature on Kenya is already so prolific and internationally accessible that it does not seem appropriate to present a medical monograph which inclines to the encyclopaedic. A register of those diseases occurring in Kenya has been published recently (Vogel et aI., 1974).
