Zusammenfassung
Man kann davon ausgehen, daß jeder fünfte Erwachsene in Deutschland wie in der Schweiz eine Hypertonie hat, und zwei von drei Hypertonikern innerhalb von 2 Jahren einen Arzt aufsuchen. Noch sind aber 32% der Hypertoniker unbekannt. 33% sind wohl bekannt, aber nicht oder ungenügend behandelt. 35% scheinen konsequent und dauerhaft antihypertensiv behandelt zu werden. Daher könnten 65% von einer intensivierten und besseren Behandlung profitieren (5, 7). Begründet ist die Hypertoniebehandlung durch die nachgewiesene Beziehung zwischen der Höhe des systolischen oder diastolischen Druckes und der Häufigkeit kardiovaskulärer Komplikationen und durch den Beweis, daß die antihypertensive Therapie die Häufigkeit kardiovaskulärer Komplikationen (Apoplexie, Herz- und Niereninsuffizienz) vermindern kann (11).
