Cardiovascular Effects of Snake Venoms

Book cover Snake Venoms

Part of the book series: Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology ((HEP,volume 52))

Abstract

Snake venoms have a variety of deleterious effects on almost every organ system. In most cases of snake venom poisoning, circulatory disturbance is one of the most frequently encountered events. Since a single snake venom contains a variety of enzymes as well as nonenzymatic components of different biologic activities, it is not difficult to appreciate the complexity of cardiovascular changes produced by different snake venoms.
