The protection and successive regeneration of the gene pool contained in the temperate aquatic and wetland vegetation nowadays represents a much more urgent task than its control and suppression. This is only justified in waterways, in irrigation and drainage systems, in certain reservoirs, etc. The rather drastic amelioration techniques, intense fertilizing, and herbicide application have brought numerous sensitive plant species and their communities near to extinction (Tables 1, 2).
