Abstract
In spring 1972, when etomidate was used in clinical practice for the first time, we anaesthetized 5 of 25 patients with the new substance for interventions of short duration. Myocloni as well as an increase in heart-rate, defensive movements during the intervention and other signs of insufficient anaesthesia induced us not to use etomidate anymore as a mononarcotic in subsequent clinical trials (DOENICKE, KUGLER, 1972).
