Abstract

This raises the obvious question of whether the collagen and glycosaminoglycans produced by the inducers plays any role in the initiation of chondrogenesis within the somitic mesoderm. This was after-all the motivation for looking at these matrices in the first place. Two experimental approaches have been utilised: — enzymatic removal of extracellular matrix from notochord or spinal cord and testing of retention of inductive ability, or addition of matrix products to otherwise unstimulated somites.
