Abstract
I am very happy to have this opportunity to contribute to this volume celebrating Dr. Heinz Götze’s sixty-fifth birthday. The book needs of the developing world have always interested Dr. Götze and during his visits to developing countries this was a subject which would always engage a large part of his attention. I need hardly add that his was not just a narrow business approach, but a broad humanistic one; an attempt to understand how the publishing industries of the advanced countries could best contribute to the advancement of higher education and, through this, to social and economic advance in these areas.
