Abstract

1. This paper describes findings of morphometric investigations of placentas in the macroscopic and the visual microscopic ranges of observation. These investigations were concerned mainly with the growth of the exchange surface area (total villous surface area) of the placenta in relation to the total volume (tissue of the foetus plus placenta) served by this surface area.
