Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff “Polytrauma” ist nicht eindeutig definiert. Im klinischen Sprachgebrauch versteht man darunter das gleichzeitige Vorliegen schwerer Verletzungen verschiedener Körperregionen bzw. mehrerer Organe, die zu einer Beeinträchtigung vitaler Funktionen, wie Bewußtsein, Atmung, Kreislauf und Stoffwechsel, führen können. Das pathophysiologische Geschehen ist dabei so vielgestaltig und hängt u.a. von Beginn und Art der Therapie ab, so daß auch von daher keine eindeutige Definition gegeben werden kann. In allen Fällen handelt es sich jedoch um Patienten, die einer Intensivbehandlung, d.h. einer exakten Kontrolle der Bewußtseinslage und einer Überwachung der Therapie des Kreislaufs und der Atmung sowie einer parenteralen Ernährung bedürfen. Bei einer so definierten Patientengruppe haben wir im Rahmen von Stoffwechseluntersuchungen Fettsäureveränderungen im Blut untersucht.
