Abstract
The similarity of Erysipelothrix infections in animals to rheumatic diseases in man has been discussed since the work of Nieberle (23). Schulz and Bisping (28) and Ajmal (1) emphasized the systemic character of the disease with respect to the entire connective tissue system. Experimental studies suggest that activation of systemic connective tissue is induced by a bacteria-caused diapedesis of blood plasma, i.e., fibrin incorporation in the tissue. The present work sets out to investigate the course of organ manifestations of Erysipelothrix infections in pigs, rats, and mice.
