Abstract

The recent literature on chloroplast inheritance has already been discussed by ARNOLD in Vol. 37 of this series. The present article will rather concentrate on the progress made in the field of mitochondrial genetics during the last two years. During this period two findings have emerged which are of special interest. Isolation of various mitochondrial mutants has permitted the construction of a preliminary genetic map in Saceharomyces oevevisiae. Restriction endonucleases were used to obtain circular, physical maps of mitochondrial DNA from different organisms.
