Effects of Depolarizing, Non-Depolarizing Muscle Relaxants and Intubation on the Ventricular Fluid Pressure

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Induction of anesthesia may cause an increase in ventricular fluid pressure (VFP), espcecially in patients with intracranial space-occupying lesions. This is related to fasciculations caused by depolarizing muscle relaxants (3) as well as to intubation (1, 2). It seems, therefore, that prevention of fasciculations should minimize the increase in VFP during the induction. The purpose of this paper is to compare the influence of two methods of induction, one based on depolarizing and the other on nondepolarizing muscle relaxants, on VFP.
