Intracranial Pressure Monitoring in Intensive Care Patients Suffering from Acute Head Injuries

  • Conference paper
Intracranial Pressure III

Abstract

We have reviewed a relatively homogenous group of patients with severe head injuries on intensive care, almost all of them undergoing early and long-term respirator treatment. Our aim was to try to make an overall assessment of the practical value of long-term intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring as a guide to management. We have also tried to ascertain whether ICP recording alone or correlated to clinical examination could provide some reliable data for prognosis. In our study we have not considered ICP in untreated patients (admission pressure).
