Cranio-Cerebral Topography as a Basis for Interpreting Computed Tomograms

  • Chapter
Book cover Cranial Computerized Tomography

Abstract

Although axial computerized tomograms can be produced without much discomfort to the patient, their in terpretation requires, without doubt, a very subtle grasp of cranio-cerebral topography, especially in term soft ransversal sections. Previous publications on CT of the head concerned themselves with the problemsof topography in that highly schematic illustrations were included. Briefly, these illustrations showed a lateral view of various skull and brain structures and their relative heights in relation to the hip. Unfortunately, even when the numerous variations of skull and brain form are taken in to consideration, the height relationships of these schematic sections in particular contain mistakes of considerable proportions.
