The Importance of Cranial Computerized Tomography in Diagnosis and Continuous Follow-up of Space-Occupying Lesions of the Sellar Region

  • Chapter
Cranial Computerized Tomography

Abstract

Cranial computerized tomography is of extraordinary importance in the diagnosis of space-occupying lesions as shown by our experiences of the sellar region. Although there might be distinct limitations in evaluation of some cases, particularly of small-size dintrasellar mass lesions, the method indicates size and localization of the tumor and its relation to adjacent structures in this area of the parasellar region where diagnosis is difficult (KAZNER etal., 1975, NEW etal., 1975). Therefore CT is indicated if at least one symptom of the classical syndrome, i.e., enlargement of the sella, visual field defects, and endocrined is orders is present.
