Abstract
Experiments on the effect of ionizing radiation on yeast cells have lead to the development of a cybernetic model, which allows complete description of the radiation response of living cells (Kappos and Pohlit, 1972). If the interpretation of the radiation effect is based on the dose-effect curve and hence on the colony forming ability of the population, two different reactions have to be considered: (1) damage to the cell by irradiation and (2) the counterreaction of reactivation of damaged cells by repair processes.
