Abstract

The problem of shape discrimination is a central one in pattern recognition. Many authors have discussed various aspects of it, but no satisfactory general theory exists [6.1–11]. Probably the major systematic effort towards shape theory is centered around the medial axis transformation or skeletons [6.1, 2, 6, 10].
