Ion Transport in Plant Mitochondria

Book cover Transport in Plants III

Part of the book series: Encyclopedia of Plant Physiology ((PLANT,volume 3))

Abstract

The essentiality of most if not all plant mineral elements was established during the first half of the twentieth century. Research efforts in mineral nutrition, in recent years, have largely been devoted to studies concerning the mechanism of assimilation of mineral elements into plants as well as the subsequent fate of mineral ions once within the plant. At the cellular level, interest has centered on the mechanism of ion movement within different cellular compartments and the role of mineral ions once within each respective compartment.
