Zusammenfassung

Bis 1964 wurden die gebräuchlichen Inhalationsnarkotika mit Ausnahme von Trichloräthylen (Barett u. Johnston, 1939) durchwegs für biochemisch inert gehalten. In jenem Jahr veröffentlichte Van Dyke, daß Abbauprodukte für die Toxizität verschiedener flüchtiger Anästhetika möglicherweise verantwortlich seien, und in nachfolgenden Arbeiten wurde das unspezifische mischfunktionelle Enzymsystem P 450, das im endoplasmatischen Retikulum lokalisiert ist, als entscheidend für die Metabolisierung der Inhalationsanästhetika erkannt (van Dyke et al. , 1964, 1965).
