Abstract

Transplant rejection is the result of an immune attack of the host against the implanted foreign cells. The graft-versus-host-reaction (GVHR) is the reverse process: the transplant reacts against the host, damages it and may even kill it. GVHR has gained increased attention in the past 20 years since it was first correctly described by Billingham et al. (1955), Trentin (1956), and Simonsen (1957).
