Genetic Syndromes Associated with Lipatrophic Diabetes

  • Chapter
The Genetics of Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

On searching for examples of the heterogeneity of diabetes mellitus, lipatrophic diabetes is an example of an instance where it is easy to separate out a special type of diabetes on clinical grounds. Lipatrophic diabetes is not a genetic entity. It is a special type of diabetes occurring in different, well-defined, genetic as well nongenetic syndromes. The terminology in this field is very conflicting; a vast number of synonyms have been proposed in the literature, which is difficult to disentangle.
