Abstract
The abundance of soil- and litter-dwelling mites at three sites at Stigstuv, Hardangervidda, South Norway (1220–1320m) described by Sonesson et al. (1975) has been sampled regularly for some years in the snow-free period (June-Oct.). Sampling has also been carried out below the snow-cover from January to June 1972. On an average, Oribatei seem to account for about 50% of the total mite abundance and 70–90% of mite biomass.
