Zusammenfassung
Eine ausreichende Sauerstoffversorgung der Zellen ist die entscheidende Voraussetzung für den zellulären Energiestoffwechsel. Störungen der Gewebsatmung, die in erster Linie durch einen O2–Mangel bedingt sind, führen zu Funktionsminderung, Funktionsausfall und Zelltod. Der klinisch tätige Anaesthesist hat die Aufgabe operative Eingriffe für den Patienten schmerzlos zu gestalten, dabei benutzt er aber Pharmaka, die entscheidend in die physiologische Regulation der Sauerstoffversorgung des Organismus eingreifen können. Durch diese Pharmaka ausgelöste Störungen der Sauerstoffversorgung können besonders im Bereich des Gehirns, das gegenüber Sauerstoffmangel sehr empfindlich ist, zu Zellschädigungen führen.
