Abstract

The interactions of anesthetic and adjuvant drugs with neuromuscular blocking agents (muscle relaxants; m.r.)* has great clinical significance. Because of this, the understanding of the biochemical and pharmacological basis of these interactions is essential for the safe conduet of anesthesia. Limitations of space do not allow the in-depth coverage of this important topic. For this reason the ensuing discussion will be primarily concerned with those aspects of the interactions of m.r. and anesthetic and adjuvant drugs which have practical clinical importance. The species differences in the interaction of different types of m.r. with each other and with anesthetic and adjuvant drugs will only be considered when this become necessary for the clarification of conflicting clinical-pharmacological observations.
