Abstract

The term interspersion denotes a more or less regular pattern of an alternating arrangement of repetitive and nonrepetitive sequences in a genome. The term clustering defines the opposite situation — occurrence of stretches of repetitive DNA a thousand or more nucleotides long, without interspersed sequences of other types.
