Abstract
In a mathematical institute, there is a model of a cube. One of the mathematicians at the institute numbers the faces of the cube with the integers 1,2, 3,4,5,6.A second mathematician comes to the institute on the following day and replaces each number by the arithmetic mean of the adjacent numbers. The first mathematician notices this on the third day and responds by also replacing each number by the arithmetic mean of the adjacent numbers. What numbers will appear on the faces of the cube after a month, under the hypothesis that the two mathematicians go to the institute on alternate days?
