Hemodynamic Studies on the New Coronary Therapeutic Drug Nifedipine (BAY a 1040)

Abstract

Previous experimental investigations by several authors have shown that nifedipine has an antianginal action, due to the following mechanisms:
  1. 1.

    Relaxation of vascular smooth muscle, particularly in the coronary bed

     
  2. 2.

    Increase of total cardiac output due to increase of venous return

     
  3. 3.

    Slight negative inotropic effect on cardiac muscle [4–6,8,9].
