Modeling of the Control System in Glucose Homeostasis

We turn next to an area of mathematical modeling in which, unlike that discussed in Chapter there is available a substantial amount of data. Unfortunately most of this data was not collected with mathematical modeling in mind and while it does provide some information with regard to qualitative behavior of the system, much of it is less than useful in model verification. The underlying physiological system itself is quite complex and is still not completely understood. Thus one goal of many who have attempted to model glucose homeostasis has been to provide additional understanding of and insight into the mechanisms involved.
