Abstract
Throughout this book attention has been drawn to the similarities in physiological changes that have been observed in plants attacked by a wide variety of pathogenic agents. Although exceptions occur and only a small fraction of all diseases have been examined, the characteristic changes in structure, function, and metabolism discussed in Chapter 3 can be considered together as a physiological syndrome. So viewed, this physiological syndrome can serve as a common denominator for plant pathogenesis.
