Abstract
The present investigation deals especially with lysosomes and lysosomal enzymes in the intestinal epithelium during development and with the regulation of the proeesses oeeurring in the epithelium in the eourse of this time. Beginning with 15 days of gestation 4 periods ean be distinguished: 1. the prenatal phase (during which the intestinal epithelium prepares for postnatal funetioning; 15 days gestation—1 day life), 2. the Ist postnatal period (suckling phase; 1 day— 23 days life), 3. the 2nd postnatal phase (retrogression period; 17–23 days life) and 4. the 3rd postnatal phase (period of the adult intestinal epithelium). All phases change fluently into one another. The epithelium of the 4 periods men- tioned is regulated endo- and exogeneously.
