Response Prevention and Modelling in the Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Neurosis: A Study of 24 Patients

  • Chapter
Progress in Behaviour Therapy

Abstract

Until 1970 the literature contained only reports on single cases of obsessive-compulsive neurosis treated by behaviour therapy. V. MEYER (1970) reported on some patients who had been treated successfully in a response prevention program. Since then LEVY and MEYER (1971) published a long-term follow-up study of these cases. RACHMAN and coworkers (RACHMAN et al., 1971; HODGSON et al., 1972) reported success with 15 patients treated by flooding, modelling and a combination of these two methods. RAMSAY and SIKKEL (1971) reported improvement in 3 of 4 patients treated by a procedure similar to modelling. HEYSE (1971a) reported preliminary results of this study in 9 patients treated by response prevention.
