Part of the book series: Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology ((CT MICROBIOLOGY,volume 70))

Abstract

The natural history of herpetic disease is a most intriguing phenomenon in virology, and its definition has consumed the activities of a diverse group of individuals for the past three quarters of a century. The early suspicion that the nervous system plays a crucial role is now well-documented and appreciated. The work which has led to our current knowledge of this association is the subject of this review.
