Rat embryos of day 11 through 21 of gestation and postnatal rats of 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 days of age were used as material for this study. The exact time of gestation was determined with the following method: Wistar albino rats were kept in temperature and humidity-controlled cages in a shifted day-night-rhythm. After mating between 7.30 and 9.30 a.m. the successful copulation was controlled by a vaginal smear for sperms. The day of demonstration of sperms was taken as day 0. On day 22 of gestation the young rats were born.
