Abstract

The measurement of orange polygonal cells (BROSENS and GORDON 1966) and of creatinine (PITKIN and ZWIREK 1967) in the amniotic fluid, have proved to be useful in predicting fetal maturity. There are few reports concerning amniotic fluid glucose concentration; value of 20 to 30 mg/ 100 ml have been reported as normal. SCHREINER (1963) observed the decrease of amniotic fluid glucose concentration from 48.1 (±23.6) mg/ 100 ml between the tenth to sixteenth weeks to 22.2 (± 23.2) mg/100 ml in the last weeks of pregnancy. The same author found a significant decrease to 12.1 (± 9.4) mg/100 ml in toxaemia.
