Zusammenfassung

Die Gezeiten des Meeres müssen den Küstenbewohnern schon immer eindrucksvoll und geheimnisvoll vorgekommen sein. Die Erklärungsversuche der sich mit diesem Phänomen beschäftigenden Wissenschaftler laufen naturgemäß einerseits mit der allgemeinen Entwicklung der Naturwissenschaften, andererseits mit der Zunahme an geographischen Kenntnissen parallel.
