Abstract
It is not just scientific curiosity which makes physiologists turn to lower animals for subjects of their experiments; often enough they have supplied excellent preparations for the analysis of mechanisms which could only be dealt with with difficulties, if at all, in Vertebrates. Furthermore, most biologists feel that they do not understand a particular organ and its function completely unless they have learned how it has developed in evolution.
